Tai Chi for Children

Tai Chi represents an activity that is different from the norm for children. It develops concentration and focus, and provides physical exercise that is suitable for all regardless of fitness. There is no competiveness with Tai Chi - the only person you are competing against is yourself in mastering the moves. If you choose to do this with family, it can alter the usual learning relationship of adult teaching child, with both on an equal footing. The merits of this are that it can bring a closer relationship between the two built on mutual respect.

We offer Tai Chi workshops to children aged between 5 to 14. We do welcome parents or carers participating in class alongside their child (the adult price is the same as per child) and children obviously do not need to be a member of Children's University to participate.

Kent Children's University

We have recently become a learning destination for Kent Children's University. The following information on Children's University has been taken from Kent County Council webpages on Activities Outside of School. You can visit this page by clicking here.

What is Children's University

The aim of Children's University "is to promote exciting learning opportunities and experiences outside normal school hours for all children aged 5 to 14" and "to raise aspirations, boost achievement and foster a love of learning, so that young people can make the most of their abilities and interests."

The scheme allows children to take part in Kent Children’s University accredited activities at a range of venues across Kent.  These venues range from tourist destinations to after-school clubs.

Recognising and rewarding participation

"Children's University™ students use Passports To Learning in which they record the number of hours of completed in CU validated learning activities. Children are encouraged to progress through the national certification scheme, based on the number of hours of attendance throughout their involvement with the Children's University™."

Each time children visit an accredited venue they receive a stamp in their ‘passport to learning’ and number of hours participating are logged. Awards are given for the following hours of learning:
